The Attendance Percentage Formula
The core formula every student needs to know:
Attendance % = (Classes Attended / Total Classes) × 100
Example: (45 / 60) × 100 = 75.0%
Bunk Calculator — How Many Classes Can You Skip?
This bunk calculator formula tells you exactly how many more classes you can miss right now while staying above 75%. If the result is zero or negative, you are already at or below the threshold — no more bunks allowed.
Safe bunks = Classes Attended − (0.75 × Total Classes)
| Total | Attended | Current % | Safe bunks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60 | 52 | 86.7% | 7 |
| 60 | 48 | 80.0% | 3 |
| 60 | 45 | 75.0% | 0 |
| 80 | 68 | 85.0% | 8 |
| 80 | 62 | 77.5% | 2 |
| 100 | 82 | 82.0% | 7 |
| 100 | 75 | 75.0% | 0 |
Recovery Formula — If You Are Already Below 75%
Classes to attend = (0.75 × (Total + Remaining) − Attended) / 0.25
If the required number exceeds remaining classes, attending everything may still not be enough. In that case, apply for eligible condonation as per institution policy as early as possible.
Full recovery guideWhy Attendance Percentage Matters
Many colleges in India follow around 75% minimum attendance per subject for exam eligibility. Exact enforcement, notices, fines, and condonation vary by university and institution. Always check your institution's specific policy — some have subject-wise rules that differ from the stated overall minimum.
Real Student Calculation Examples
Priya — Safe Zone
Situation: 52 classes attended out of 65 conducted. 25 classes remain in semester.
Calculation: (52 / 65) × 100 = 80%. Needs 68 attended out of 90 total.
Verdict: Can safely miss 9 more classes.
Rohan — Danger Zone
Situation: 41 classes attended out of 65 conducted. 25 classes remain.
Calculation: (41 / 65) × 100 = 63.1%. Even with perfect attendance going forward, still below 75%.
Verdict: Needs immediate recovery strategy and likely condonation.

What is the attendance percentage formula?
Attendance % = (Classes Attended / Total Classes Held) × 100. Example: 45 attended out of 60 total = (45 / 60) × 100 = 75%.
How many classes can I skip and still have 75% attendance?
Safe bunks = Classes Attended - (0.75 × Total Classes). If the result is 0 or negative, you cannot skip any more classes.
How many classes do I need to attend to reach 75%?
Classes needed = 0.75 × Total Classes Held (round up). If total classes = 80, you need at least 60 attended.
How do I recover attendance if I am below 75%?
Classes to attend = (0.75 × (Total + Remaining) - Attended) / 0.25. If even attending all remaining classes does not get you to 75%, apply for condonation with your department.
Is 75% attendance mandatory in Indian colleges?
Many Indian colleges follow around 75% attendance for exam eligibility, but exact rules, penalties, and condonation policies vary by institution.
